Overview
GEG has built 16 geothermal power plants in Kenya and Iceland, with a combined total geothermal power generation capacity of 85.6 MW. GEG has further developed and delivered grid connection equipments for plants. This includes large modular substations 87.5 MVA and 40 MVA, as well as mobile substations 8 MVA.

Bjarnarflag – 5 MW Iceland
GEG successfully concluded its contract to supply and build a 5 MW turbine-generator package for the Bjarnarflag geothermal power plant by Icelandic national power company Landsvirkjun in the Northeast of Iceland in November 2019.

OLK 15 – 5 MW Kenya
OLK 15 was the last plant built under the 14 plant contract with KenGen on well pad WH-39 with an installed power generation capacity of 5 MW.

OLK 14 was the second last plant built under the 14 plant contract with KenGen on well pad WH-905 with an installed power generation capacity of 5 MW.

OLK 12 & 13 – 10 MW Kenya
The plants OLK 12 and OLK 13 have both an installed capacity of 5 MW in a single-turbine setup on the same well pad. The started operation in June 2015 and were handed over in June/ July 2015.

OLK 11 – 5 MW Kenya
The plant OLK 11 has an installed capacity of 5 MW in a single-turbine setup. The plant started operation in March 2016 and was handed over in July 2016.

Substation
Modular Substation
On request of our client KenGen, GEG designed, developed and built two modular at a rated voltage of 11/ 220 kv at rated power of 87.5 MVA and 11/ 132 kv at a rated power of 40 MVA. Two of the substations were set up as portable stations. The substations were set up in 2015/ 2016.

The plants OLK 09 and OLK 10 have both an installed capacity of 5 MW in a single-turbine setup on the same well pad. The started operation in June 2015 and were handed over in June/ July 2015.

Operator Training
Operator Training
As part of the work for KenGen, GEG also provided several operator training sessions for the staff that operates the geothermal wellhead power plants built by GEG at Olkaria in Kenya.
Substation
Mobile Substation
On request of our client KenGen, GEG designed, developed and built four mobile substations at a rated voltage of 11/ 33 kv and a rated power of 8 MVA. Two of the substations were set up as portable stations. The substations were set up in 2014.

OLK 04-08 – 27.8 MW Kenya
The 5 plants OLK 04 to 08 were set up for KenGen at Olkaria in Kenya on the same well pad set up with wells WH 914, WH 914A, WH 914 B, and WH 914C. The site features three plants with an installed power generation capacity of 5 MW with a single turbine set-up, and two plants with a dual-turbine set up and an installed capacity of 6.4 MW each.

OLK 02 & 03 – 12.8 MW Kenya
As part of a larger 14 plant package, GEG installed two 6.4 MW wellhead plants for KenGen at Olkaria. Both plants feature a twin-turbine set up with two 3.2 MW turbine per unit and a combined 12.8 MW of installed power generation capacity.

OLK 01 – 5.5 MW Kenya
GEG’s pilot plant installed for Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) at Olkaria. The plant has an installed power generation capacity of 5 MW. It started operation in February 2012 and was officially handed over to KenGen in November 2013.
